    CoolBits in WindowsXP

Either I am doing something wrong or it does not work, but I can't get the "CoolBits" registry hack to enable the overclcoking tool built into the nVidia drivers. I had it working on Windows98, but can not seem to get it working under WindowsXP. I just upgraded it today. Seems pretty good so far. I can't find a few things, but other than that everything runs good. I'm using WindowsXP Pro and nVidia drivers 28.32 for my Geforce2 GTS.

For some reason it did not detect my Sound Blaster Audigy. I had to actually install the drivers. Everything seems to be running good so far. I will benchmark this beast later. One thing I did notice. I used to have a problem with the mouse flickering in Windows, even when running apps (like Quake3) that do not show the mouse. I could get it to go away be clicking START/TRUN and cancel. I don't know why it did this, but it went away with Windows XP. I think it has something to do with the Athlon timing issue that they released a patch for for WindowsXP.

If the CoolBits hack does not work in XP, then what is the easiest tool for doing this that takes up the least system resorces.

Worked fine for me. I did exactly the same as Mitch. However, I no longer use it since the settings max out too early for my card. It only allows for 160/190 on my TNT2, but I run at 160/220. I would have to say RivaTuner is probably the best I've used. However, don't use the hardware overclocking feature, let it overclock it via the driver, because the hardware overclocking only maxes out at whatever the CoolBits hack does, even though it allows for higher settings. For example, I set RivaTuner to OC to 160/220, and even though it said 160/220, it was only giving me 3dMark scores of 160/220. I switched to the software overclocking and set the same settings, and my 3dMark scores increased 350 points, which is about right for the 30mhz increase. (approx 100 pts/10mhz, which is how it was increasing prior to this with other settings). RivaTuner has the option for setting the OC timings at windows bootup, but does not require the program to run, so it must set them in the registry somewhere because I have no apps running...basically ZERO RESOURCES. There are also many other tweaks with this program as well!

I did use a hack file. I used to go in and edit the registry manually, but it does not work (if I am doing it right). If there is a file that will do it automatically under WindowsXP then give me a link. I am using Power Stip right now, but I don't like the pop-up screan at the begaining and I hate icons in my system tray.
