Just How Much Cooling is neccessary??

    Ok Guys,
I am in the process of building a PC and need some help....... I am looking at cases and I need some ideas on what I really need. I am going to try some moderate overclocking and need some extra cooling. But how much is really neccessary? I am looking at http://store.yahoo.com/xoxide/modifiedcases.html cases and I want to know if this is overkill. What do most people run if you are going to attempt to overclock. I am still a rookie and I will be using a XP 1900+. Thanks!

    Those cases are nice.....

AS for cooling, get a good cpu cooler (not the one that comes with some cpus), some arctic silver (not the thermal pad, looks like a piece of chewing gum), and a couple case fans. Put a case fas in front to draw air in, and maybe one in back to draw air out. Maybe one in the side pulling air in also.... and let Power supply pull some out. Should be good to go.

Those modified cases are great but I don't think you will be buying the one that has the neon light cause it's for decorations

i like the Black Knight casing for $99.99. For the heatsink, you can refer to the recent post made by the members recently on the CoolerMaster HSF and definitely get a copper base nowadays.

Hmmmm... It looks like a touch call between the AX-7 and the HHC-001. Both look very effective. I was actually looking at the Z-40. You are right, the light and stuff is not neccessary. The only drawback is these cases don't have any ports on the front. What do people think on Maxtop CSX series cases? Can anyone recommend a good setup. Again, the Z-40 looks nice, but do I need my case to hover above the ground?

I personally have an antec 1030/1040 style case. They aren't made by antec but antec markets some of them with their power supplies, as do other companies. I got mine under the name untec or something like that with a generic 300 watt psu and 2 sunon fans for around $80ish at the computer show. It has screwless fan cages that hold 2 80mm fans in the back and 2 80mm fans in the front. Also the fan grils are nice and thin and don't cut down the power of the fans like some other cases do. You won't need to cut anything and will have plenty of cooling with all 4 fans (most of these cases come with 2 to start). My case is never more than 1 or 2 degrees above ambent at any given time w/ my extra hot tbird in my sig...and now my new Radeon 8500 also...

I personally would recomned this good looking case to anyone.
