Quietest Power Supply?

My power supply that I currently have is extremely loud (or so i think) It is a Enermax 365W VE. Can anyone recommend a better supply that is quieter than the one I have?

Since that's already a pretty decent powersupply, why don't you just replace the fan(s) with quieter ones? I did that with mine because it was damn noisy when I bought it. Recommend Evercool or Pabst for quiet fans.

You mean you can change out the fans within the power supply? I hadn't thought of that. Do you think that's the best option?

I actually took the power supply apart and did find fans that could possibly be replaced. However the electrical wiring for them is different than for a straight up case fan. Can you buy these sort of fans as well and how do they intall as this one appeared to be soddered to the board in one place.

Well all of the case fans that I have seen have a three prong plug and that's it. the fans inside my power supply seem to be a two prong with a wire lead that is soddered onto the power supply at a different point.

The quietest power supplies I've ever used are the ones made by PC Power & Cooling.

WHAT U DO SEE IS TAKE OUT THE FAN COMPLETELY AND PUT IT IN A BARRLE OF MINERAL OIL, MINERAL OIL YOU SEE DOES NOT CONDUCT ELECTRICITY, SO YOU SHOULD DO THAT, IT WILL WORK NICE AND YOU WONT EVEN BE ABLE TO HEAR IT!!!

In theory, that should work...that is how larger transformers are cooled, but I think they use something slightly different than straight mineral oil, just to make certain it doesn't conduct electricity.

My Enermax has always been very quiet for me...I once took the Delta fan off of my heatsink for a brief moment and couldn't hear anything but a faint whirring sound.

Changing the fan is an easy way out. I, too, had the same problem, trying to find a quiet PS. Learn to change the PS fan is a much easier and cheaper way.

We are dealing with only two wires and bring in a 12V source, either from inside the PS or outside, to drive the fan. That is it. A couple of notes:
1. let the PS sit unplugged for a full day to discharge the big capacitors inside the PS. That insures you won't get surprises of being shocked.
2. After installing the fan, short the green wire to any black wire (using a bent paper clip) on the ATX connector. Also short the gray wire to any black wire on the connector. The PS is supposed to be fully functional as it was plugged on the m/b. I found this has saved me time to check any mistakes before I put the PS in the PC.
3. Chaning the fan viods PS warranty. Make sure the PS works before modifying it.
