This system is rock solid and hasnt crashed once, despite being switched on fully since 3pm yesterday (saturday)!!!
The Geforce II MX isnt the best card and I wish I had known before I bought it! DAMN!!!

One little question tho...
I bought a heatsink for an Athlon 1.4 (XP to 1.9) and 2 case fans (1 for the front intake and 1 for the rear extraction over the processor area). The CPU temp is reported as 55'c and just after building this was 66'c!!!
I know this is way too hot, but I cant seem to find why its so hot!
The thermal paste on the heatsink is touching the processor die because it has a footprint. I might try some other paste (perhaps artic silver 2). This heatsink is an Asaka ICICLE 675 (or is it 765) and so I would have thought it would have decent compound!
My other thought is that the CPU sensor is broken, because the case doesnt get hot, the air coming from the inside of the case is cool and it hasnt crashed (left quake3 on for 10 hours last night in a hot room and with the side panels screwed on)!!!
Any suggestions?

What are you case temps, CPU temps (idle and load) and room temps? What case cooling do you have and what exactly is the heatsink? Then maybe we can help you better. Just because a heatsink is rated for 1.4Ghz does not mean it will keep the temps down. Like you said it is stable, just hot. These CPUs can run 65'C or hotter without too much trouble if you are not overclocking. I prefer under 40-45'C with a chipset temp of 25'C, case temp of 23'C, and room temp of 21'C. My AthlonXP1600+ (1.4Ghz) is running at 42'C with a modified GlobalWin FOP 32-1 (fitted a low RPM 80mm fan on top). That is pretty good for an old all aluminum heatsink that runs ar 30db.

When you touch the heatsink, is it really hot? Do you have to take your finger away for fear of it setting alight? This should answer your question on whether it is too hot
Chances are the heatsink was not on 100% flush. This can make a hugh differance in temps. You might have also had an air pocket on the pad. Those are much better temps.

I was also shocked at the diff in temps! The heatsink has no temperature to it at all and the only hot air coming out from the system is from the slow-rotating fan in the PSU!
Todd a... It could have been, but i removed the heatsink a few times and re-seated it! I must have been mad because a few times I pushed on the clip really hard! Ahhh, cracked core... not the best thing! But, it turned out OK!!! LOL

Props to Gigabyte. Just built a box for a mate based on a Gigabyte KT-133a board and it too is ""solid as a rock". Managed to get £120 and a DVD out of it too.
It's the third system I've built with a Gigabyte mobo. All have been absolutely trouble free. Not my personal brand of choice, by for system builders they must be damn good (albeit slightly expensive for what you get).
When you have a little play with my system (crappy little thing) and play with that system (ive got another 3 to build yet) you notice just how stable they are.
I have to restart mine about 3 to 4 times a day! It just slows right down or just crashes in Quake3!!!
Ive tried everything... formatting HD, new ram, overclocking, underclocking... bla bla bla!!!
Ive given up with it coz im savin up for my new baby!
Athlon XP 1800+ and a GF2 GTS!!! Yeah!

I have used quite a few motherboards. These I used for Athlon/Durons are Abit KT7. The one on my system is the only one that gave me problems. It would sometinmes reboot on boot-up. Once it boot-ed completely into Windows it ran fine. I am thinking it was my unlocking job on the CPU. If I raised the bus speed and lower the multiplier (went from 9x100 to 8x112) the problem went away completely. I had no other problems on the other systems I built with this board.
My Epox system had two problems. It did not power down automatically on shutdown, which turned out to be a short in my keyboard. The other problem I don't think is related to the motherboard. The mouse acts a little funny. It flicker to the hourglass constantly. The mouse would also show up on screans it is not supposed to, like over the cross-hair in Quake3. I can get it to go away by just clicking on start/run/cancel. Oddest thing. I'm actually thinking it is a driver problem and am leaning towards my GeForce2 GTS.
I upgraded my mom's computer from her K6-2 350 to a Duron 1Ghz on an ECS K7S5A cheap'o board. This thing has been great. I didn't even format the hard drive or anything and it has been running for about 2 weeks now without a single crash. They never turn their computer off. They even play some Nascar 3 on the Voodoo3 2000. I'd say that is pretty good for a $52 motherboard and some old PC-100 (2-64MB sticks).
I did build quite a few systems around the old FIC VA-503+ or A motherboards for K6-2s. They ran fine too, but I could not get the memory to run at 100Mhz on any of them. I had to lock the memory to the AGP bus. I tried genaric PC-100 and PC-133. I even tried some really good PC100 cas2 stuff (that did 133 cas2 just fine). Nothing worked. I'd get errors all the time. The performance was not the best either, but I had no other trouble with them.
I've used a few other boards, but nothing too special and I never kept tabs on them.
