    building system - dumb question!

I bought an inexpensive ATX case today, so that I could put together a system for my sister. The last time I put one together, I used an Elan Vital T-10AB, which had a a nice little instruction pamphlet. It also had plenty of standoffs.

The case I bought today had no instructions, which I didn't think I would need.

Anyway, it only came with 4 standoffs. The plate the motherboard sits on has several raised "hills", that match up with the screw holes on the motherboard.

Is it safe to mount the motherboard to these "hills", without using standoffs? It appears that it would have to work that way. The places for the standoffs don't coincide with any screw-holes.

Should I install standoffs anyway, to support the motherboard?

The store I bought it from will be closed till Monday.

Help! I am pretty new at this...

It is ok to mount to the hills. Just make sure that the diameter of the top of the hill is less than the diameter of the plated through hole on the underside of your motherboard. I you are nervouse, I had the same feeling.

What I did was to cover the hills with 1 to 2 layers of electrical tape (to act as an insulator). Then poke through the threaded hole so that you can mount the motherboard and just screw it down as you normally would. Hope this helps!

Cool! Thanks, I will try that.

I also got a single white plastic piece that doesn't seem to fit into anywhere. Any idea?
