Athlon XP & KT7A Abit MB

Hi guys, I'm mostly a reader here but this morning I fried my 1.4gig Athlon, so I need your help. I'm trying to decide what to order, a new 1.4gig T-Bird or an equivilent XP. I am wondering if any of you are having any luck using an XP with an KT7A version 1.0 MB. I have the newer 3R bios. On the Abit website it says that the 1.0 ver. of my board will not support an XP chip. But I thought I remember a thread here that delt with a few people using this combo. I'd like to hear from any of you that may have this combo. Or if you have any thoughts on the subject please post them here. I need to order something soon so lets hear what you think.

for the most part it works, i did have some trouble with 1.67Ghz+ cpus on KT7A's of ALL revisions. but the 1500 to 1800+ cpus seem to work just fine on them.

Thanks for the quick reply. I hope I can get a few more posts on this. I am nervous about ordering the XP chip and having it not work. This is my gaming machine and I am already having withdrawls(it's only been 2 hours). THis old laptop ain't what I call fun to use. Also don't XP's run alittle cooler than T'Birds? Cooling is the main reason I would like to switch to an XP.

Yes the XPs run MUCH cooler than the Tbird. My temps are cooler than my old Duron, and I'm using the retail heatsink. They are also slightly faster at a given clockspeed, and if you use SSE intensive apps, then this chip will do much better than the Tbird. The data prefetch also helps somewhat. I would suggest the XP...Justintime knows his stuff with this board...he was the main poster on that thread you mentioned earlier.

Too Cool !! You guys are great. I guess I just need to pick a speed and pray I get the heatsink on right. BTW that's how I torched the 1.4 this morning. I have switched sinks 6-7 times since I got this 1.4 and figured I get bit sooner or later. I took all the precautions and still got to smell the smell that tells it all. Ok thanks guys !!
