The Taisol CGK760 is quiet, and performs exelently. It uses a slimline 60mm fan that pushes around 22cfm. Out of that list, i'd probably go for the more expensive Taisol or the Thermoengine if you are looking for something quiet

Zalman CNPS-5000+ is one of the best performing heatsinks out there. It is solid coper and incorperates something like 50 fins and mounts to the motherboard with spring loaded screws (both Athlons and P4s) using the holes next to the sockets.

This heatsink comes with two extra wires that you can use to increase the resistance and lower the speed and noise of the fan. This lets it run at a load 40db (still much quieter than the Delta 38) all the way down to 29db or 20db.

The cooling is top level and even at the medium speed it can perform at the same level as a most heatsink using the Delta38. You can pick one up here for about $45:

The ThermoEngine is a core crusher if you remove the inferior-performing factory TIM pad. Beware!

Silverado from NoiseControl: top-of-the-line cooling, and quitest fan cooler you can buy.

    Cal

EDIT: Sorry, I overlooked the list you posted. If your main goal is quietness over overclockability, get the cooler with the lowest fan speed that's rated for you processor.

Go for the Taisol or the GlobalWin FOP32. Either one should do the job...

Yeah, if you're not looking for top performance(just something to get the job done) I'd vote for the FOP32-1. It's a very decent cooler that isn't too loud at all. Best yet you can get it for like 20 bucks.

Inferior Tim pad? all the reviews say it's on of the best phase chnage thermal pads out there and I have had excellent results with the ThermoEngine up to 1.56Ghz with the Tim pad in place at 1.53 GHz my load temps never exceed 42C this is with good case cooling but that goes hand in han with cpu cooling.
So I would tend to disagree with your statement.

I think what he meant was that the TIM is inferior to using some sort of heatsink paste.. i.e. artic silver

What's with this quiet stuff. My room sounds like you are standing on the tarmak as a 747 takes off. I quess I am deaf or just don't notice any more but my computer is H2O cooled with the airconditioner ducted to the radiator.
    Best regards,
    John

The thermosonic TIM is good, and performs nearly as well as arctic silver in the benchmarks I seen. It's about 1ºC off.

I have the Thermoengine and have modded the stock fan to run at 7v, and it really is silent. Even at 12v, it's much quieter than most other performance HSF combos.

The FOP32-1 is a nice "well rounded" cooler for a good price. The Thermal Pads do perform pretty close and are easy to use. The only issue is if you ever need to remove the heatsink (to upgrade the CPU, pencil in traces, upgrade fan...) the thermal pad will get damaged. The one I have on my FOP32-1 got damaged when I bumped the heatsink accidently. The temps are now about 4'C hotter. Still running below 40'C with my Duron 600@900Mhz.

My neibor's father is building an Athlon 1.33Ghz system with a Zalman CPNS 5000+ heatsink. I should be able to tell you how well it performs in about 2 weeks. He will bring over the parts so I can help him put the system together. It is pretty impressive... Athlon 1.33, FK-320 case, GeForce3, ASUS AMD 760 board with 256MB PC2100 DDR, Sound Blaster Live 5.1, 2-IBM 40GB hard drives, 12x CD R/W, 52x TEAC CDROM, 3COM 10/100 NIC, Linksey HW router/firewall, 300w PS, PanaFlo 120mm and 92mm L1A cases fan, Zalman CPNS 5000+ heatsink, killer 5.1 speekers, 19" monitor, MS Intela-eye Explorer mouse and natural keyboard, and rounded cables to boot. He also wants to mildly overclock the CPU to 140MHz bus and the GF3 to about 220/480Mhz and might add a window and neon to it later. Man I got this 60 year old guy hooked on an extreme computer project. He is starting with Windows 98, but it looking to switch to Windows XP after the initial bugs are worked out.

He makes me jelous. My Duron 900 and GeForce2 GTS with 256MB PC166 on an Abit KT7 just cant keep up with this machine.

I just replaced my Taisol 472 with a Millenium Glaciator...the Taisol had a 7,200 rpm delta fan on it as thr stock fan is not an effective cooler, but with the delta, the Taisol is a very worthy, but loud cooler.

The Glaciator is whicpser quiet, but cools better than the Taisol did.

If your interest, there's a lively discussion @ AMDmb/Iwill forum.
