Dang...one more day to wait...then my new case

Well...after all of the muttering about, I finally decided on a case, a SuperMicro SC750-A (Essentially a Addtronics 7890 in disguise). I paid $125 for it (about the same price as a 7890 sans PSU, mine doesn't have one either), but I was able to order it locally and avoid the shipping charges.

I'll probably have a SCSI array in it in the next few months, so I needed a beast like this to contain all the drives, and remain cool at the same time. In addition, I've grown tired of using my 20" box fan to cool my computer down...it gets a little warm here in the south (that's an understatement) and I've wanted to use the thing for something else rather than just cooling my computer.

I'll post some pics when I get it in, and get everything installed...everything ought to be alot neater inside than it is now in my cramped midtower.

Can you post an image of the case so I know what it looks like... if I'm right, that thing costs about $ 300 in the Philippines.

Ok...no pics yet...but I got it yesterday, and got it up and running...THIS THING ROCKS!!

I can actually play UT with the case closed now, which is a releif because I have a noisy Delta fan on my CPU. The temperatures still climbed up because I only have the default fans right now, but no reboots over 45 minutes of playing! With my old case, I was lucky to get about 15-20 minutes in before it would lock up and reboot because it got too hot. There are a few things I attribute to this:

1)I was able to locate my hot SCSI drives well away from the MB and CPU, in fact, I mounted it right next to the 92mm exhaust fan up top.

2)This case has a 120mm opening right next to the CPU I don't think I'm going to have problems keeping the CPU cool (or the entire system for that matter) once I plop a fan there.

3)Once I install my SCSI array, I can put them in the 5.25" bays, since there are the fans right next to those. I looked at the bracing for the 5.25" rack, and it looks like I could cut out some of the metal where the fans are to improve airflow across the case.

As soon as I get some pics up, I'll post a link to them on here.
