CD-burner problems, could they be power supply related??
Hi, sorry for posting this in the cases cooling.... forum, there are more people that post here.
I have a problem with my cd-burner. Everytime I want to burn something onto a cd-r through NERO or WinOnCd or any other burning program for that matter, I get a buffer underrun and the burning procedure fails. Using DirectCD works great when burning CD-RWs. It's a Sony 10x4x32 IDE cd-burner. Could this problem be Power Supply related? It's a 250W Enlight PSU (waiting for the Enermax) which is powering a Duron 850
256Mb SDRAM
Abit KT7A motherboard
IBM Deskstar 40GV 41.1GB
40x CD-rom drive
10x4x32 burner
2x80mm case fans and 2x120mm case fans (120mm turned off)
60mm Delta on cpu.
Voodoo3 2000 PCI
Dlink PCI NIC
SB AWE 64
Oh and one more thing that speaks against that it might be a PSU problem. As I powered on the computer the other day, I saw the burners drive light just flickering, burning programs couldn't recognize the burner and it was recognized as CDROM PIO 3 in BIOS instead of CDROM ATA 33 like it should. I powered on and off a couple of times which didn't work. So I took the drive out, took a look at it and thought I'd give it one more shot and try. So I plugged it in and it was recognized like it should. But I still can't burn anything. Already burned a couple of coasters.
If somebody has any comments on what could be the problem here, please reply.
Yes I have installed the Via 4in1 drivers. Do you think it's PSU related? Then what explains that boot up problem with the flickering drive light and the recognition of the drive as CDROM PIO 3 instead of CDROM ATA 33 ??
Do I have to RMA this drive? Or wait until I get my Enermax and see what happens, then RMA it if needed?
It is on an ATA 33 cable along with the cd-rom drive. The harddrive is on it's separate ATA 100 cable. I can change the cable just in case and see what happens.
Oh and it even fails simulations.
dimme, you do realize that we will have to confiscate your system now?! Long time members are forbidden to make common errors!
BTW, the most current Via 4in1's version 4.32 Final can be downloaded via this LINK.
