GlobalWIN FOP38 or FOP32...??

I've been looking over some reviews of the FOP 32 & FOP 38. Has anyone here had any experiences with these HS/F combinations with Overclocking?? My temps are 47 under full load and would like to lower them.

I notice the FOP 32 spins at 4200 +/-15% vs. the FOP 38 spinning at 6800 +/-15%. As far as sound dB's the FOP38 is only 1db higher.

I'm leaning more towards getting the FOP 38 with some Artic Silver paste. Anyone have any thoughts....??

Don't be fooled.... The 38 is ALOT louder. So if noise is an issue, go with the 32. BUT the 38 cools alot better. My temps are 1 Degree C UNDER my system temp at idle, and max out at 42 C full load and a hot day.

By the way, I do think there are better coolers out there now. You may not want to comfjne yourself to these coolers. But I do LOVE my 38!

Have my t-bird 1.33@1.5 and run about 35C using the Gladiator/w stock fan. First had Globalwin WBK-38, has the 7200 rpm fan, didn't cool as wells the Gladiator and a hellova lot louder. Made an adapter for the GW/ a92mm fan cooled as well, and a lot quieter. going to try it in my Gladiator. Good Luck.

I have the GW FOP-38, and the Delta fan on this thing is LOUD!
I'm running it at 7 volts now because I could no longer stand the noise. It still cools very well, even at this reduced speed.

I'll dig through my resistors and knock 1000 rpm off of it tommorow. 6000 is still fast..

You need a ~15 Ohm 2 watt resistor to drop the fan down to ~7-8 volts.

It's easier and more efficient just to run the fan's ground off the +5 volt supply to get 7 volts at the fan.

Must be something up with your probe dude... its virtually impossible to cool your cpu below the case temp using air cooling, as the air cooling it is at case temp.

The Delta 38 is not 1db it is 10.5db (36 vs 46.5). If you know much about sound, you would know that the sound doubles every 3db. 9db would be 8 times louder and 12db would be 16 times louder. 10.5 falls in between and would likely be about 12 times louder.

I also have found that the YS-Tech 60mm fans on the FOP32-1 tend to spin around 4800-5000RPM (the 5 I have installed have at least and 3 of them were on the FOP32-1). That would run closer to 30CFM instead of the 26CFM they are rated for. They tend to cool within about 10% of the FOP38, so a FOP32-1 might give you a 40'C and the FOP38 might give you a 40'C.

I think the FOP32-1 should work on just about any Athlons up to 1.2Ghz without any trouble. It gets harder to get good cooling for the newer 1.33-1.4Ghz CPU without going to the WBK38 or one of the many coolers utilzing the Delta 38 fans. One of the beter ones is the Zalman CNPS 5000+. It comes with some wires that let you add resistors to decrease the fans speeds from 5600 to 3200 to a wisper quiet 2000RPM running 40,29, and 20db respectively. You can also get it without a fan and use what ever fan you want. This thing also mounts very securely using the 4 hole located around the socket on the Athlon and P4 motherboards (not all Athlon boards have this, but it was required by AMD, so the better ones complied to get certification). You can also mount a fan addaptor and use an 80mm fan instead. Thermal engine also has a new one coming out that is a little shorter but replaces the solid alluminum core with a solid copper core. It is supposed to perform VERY good.

the best thing to do is this:

Get a FOP32 a YSTech 80mm fan and an 80mm chrome grill.

Attach the chrome grill to the 80mm fan

remove the fan from the FOP32, and, using the clips which hold the old fan on, clip on the 80mm using the chrome grill (the second rung in on mine is exactly the right diameter for this)

Congratulations. You have now modified your FOP32. This modification results in roughly the same cooling as a FOP38, with the noise of a FOP32.

I like your idea Jolly Roger and the FOP32 is cheap here. What are you running there and what are your temps with the modified FOP 32?
