Well they all work bout the same way, so any of them work fine. If I had to pick one I'd say rain. But if you have a KX133A chipset you will need CPUcool or do the register 52 hack to get your idle temps down.. All the progies you mentioned seem to not like the KX/Duron or Tbird combo. Good Luck!
It really doesnt matter. They all pretty much do the same thing. Though I use Rain because from what I understand is that it takes up the least amount of system resources, which in turn also lifts some extra stress off the CPU and give you a 1 degree or less drop.

Their website said "Requires Linux Distrubution based on kernel 2.4.2 or better," so I went and installed FreeBSD.

I like CPUCool, but they have a timer on it. After about 1 month it will require you to enter numbers every time you boot up. This gets anoying. It is only $13 to register, but it is in Germany and you have to mail him a check. A PayPal account would be much easier (or even an on-line credit card ordering).
Hey anybody registered theirs yet. Did you have any trouble? Do you want to dish out the code?

CPU Cool Rocks, my Duron used to idle between 35 and 38 C, now it idles between 23 and 26. Even under light load it continues to work!
It also has the ability to turn itself off when you start a game (or this can be done manually) and doubles up as a Hardware Monitor. All round, theres nothing to beat CPUCool IMHO, and it doesn't even eat that much CPU time!

AHHH, I think my computer's got a Virus!
Oh no, that's Windows 98

I'm using Rain right now, and it cools my P3 about as well as CPUIdle did. I'm getting a Tbird soon, so I guess CPUCOOL will be a wise choice, considering these posts. BTW, anyone knows what CPU manufacturers think bout these programs?
Hey thanks for the online ordering tip. I wish they had included this in the actual program. Heck, they don't even include a web site (just an e-mail address). Much handier than mailing a check to Germany.
