a crazy cooling idea

ok, i know this will sound dumb, but i was bored as hell, lookin at my addtronics 6890 case. well, i had this fan sitting across the room, you know, like those big box fans used for coolin the house in the summertime. how well do you think it would work if i were to just take a door off my case, and replace it with that big 1.5 x 1.5 ft fan? i coudld put cardboard around where it didn't exactly meet with the side of the case, like air ducts. i imagine i could get my case temp down...

It's been done before. As long as your large fan does not over-power/work against any smaller fans such as your CPU fan, it should improve cooling.

Yup, I can recall last year, what was it Quakecon?

Some guy built a custom case out of PVC pipe and used drilled aluminum struts to form a drive cage. The final touch was the addition of a box-fan door.

Looked kinda cheesy to me, but it reached its goal: ultimate airflow. I didn't think it deserved first prize though, there were MUCH more creative entries than that.
