AMD 1.0 GHz w/ Mini Super Orb For AMD SOCKET 462 MEGA PROBLEMS!!!

I have a Thunderbird 1.0 Ghz w/ the TT mini SuperOrb. The CPU now has a terrible smell to it, most likely to the fact that the fan had no contact with the CPU.

The question is: Do I have to remove the little rubber feet off the top of the CPU?

Hey, Orbs have their merits, the first being that they are VERY quiet in comparison to other "proper" coolers.

Amskid: You shouldn't remove the rubber feet, they are designed to steady the HS, thus reducing the chance of killing the core.

That smell you talk about sounds rather ominous... be very careful.

Does your processor have the rubber feet as well? IF so, it is likely not making full contact.

I have had personal experience with how much they suck! Both my friend and I bought the golden orb to put on our brand new T-birds. Mine cracked right in half...his had a fractured core. That was a total of $2000 in damage in just one day between the two of us.

Golden orbs suck the big one and use them at your own risk!!!

I now have the FOP 38 and I do not mind the noise. I am running my 850 @ 1 GHZ and only at 40 degrees celcius max! 35 when not being used.
