T-bird 1Gig @ 1.2Gig .................

Now Totally stable (I hope )

One of the HDD's in the Raid was causing a problem and the Copper Hedgehog just wasn't up to extended gaming use at 1.2Gig.

I had an old Alpha P3125 copper insert, (slot 1), heatsink spare so with a bit of judicious grinding, (while still keeping the maximum heatsink size), I made it fit the T-bird socket A.

I have reduced my max temp by 15C!! by using this large oblong heatsink now at 29C idle (using Msidle), and 44C max after 7 hours of looping the 3D Mark 2K demo.

I was getting a lock up in defrag but that appears to have been the HDD. Water cooling soon so hope to get that Idle temp as a maximum

Got it set at 1.85v in the softmenu but both the bios and MBM report it at 1.91v

What fan were you using on the Hedgehog? Was the 1200Mhz natural or OC'ed? How loud is the new fan arrangement?

The topic heading says it all 1Gig @ 1.2Gig

It's a 1Gig copper interconnect (Blue Core) Athlon Thunderbird. I was using a Delta Hedgehog, (which is a good socket A heatsink), but like all socket A heatsinks, (or most that I've come across), they are limited in general size and surface area in the fins and baseplate.

The hedgehog was getting to nearly 60C in intensive Gaming and causing the obvious instabilities, a faulty HDD was also adding to the equation.

The fan arrangement is a bit annoying so I am water cooling soon, (how long have I been saying that folks?) to enable me to remove ALL the fans from my system.

I'll be using one of these on the CPU:-
