i am building my 1st AMD T-Bird system. i got the chip and i am trying to figure out the proper way to connect the heat sink/fan. i got a 1gig T-Bird and it has little foam spacer tabs on all four corners. when i put on the heat sink (golden/platinum orb) it dosnt make contact with the CPU. so do i need to remove the tabs from the CPU or what?
If I remember correctly, when you clip the heatsink on, it will compress the pads and the heatsink will then make contact with the chip. A thin layer of thermal paste will help to ensure this. Also, when clipping the heatsink on, hold it down so that it is flat against the chip while you clip it down. This will help prevent cracking the processor. Hope this helps.
