I got a PIII 700E that I run at 933 and I'm wondering what temperature should you keep the CPU at to make sure you're not toasting it.
Here's what I see right now roughly with my GlobalWin 048 HS/FAN:
Normal/High load at 700: 29-37 C (85-100 F)
Normal/High load at 933: 35-46 C (100-115 F)
What do you think, does Intel provide any guidelines for temp?
46°C is relatively high for a 700E @ 933 at load, even if it's well within the operating temps for a PIII. You would still be better off with temps in the mid 30s to 40°C. What are your ambient temps?
Intel has their maximum temps at some obscenely high number (75 - 90° C). Those are probably temps at which the chip starts to suffer physical damage.

46 deg c thats cooking. when i first o/c mine i started to worry at 40 - 42 then got my self an alpha 3125s (secc2) cooler now its only tops out at 35 deg c after a few hours sesion of online q2.
well worth the forty quid.
I have a GlobalWin 048 HS/FAN, it's not an Alpha-type cooler like the 033(?) GlobalWin makes, but it's got a decent HS and two fans. So, maybe the thermal paste is not done right and there's not enough contact??
Also, Intel is shipping with their boxed CPUs, a HS/FAN combo like mine above for their 1.1GHz CPU ... which is basically a 800E that they have clocked at 133. So, if they ship the suckers like that, I don't know how much I should care about the temps around 40-50C. Then again, the spikes are not that comforting
The thing to consider is your overall system stability. If you don't suffer any unusual crashes and or BSODs you might be fine juz the way you are. If you find that you aren't as stable as can be then you will want to look into either a new HSF, reseating your existing HSF, adding a bit of thermal compound, improving your case cooling or lowering your room temps.

I'd like to try MBM, but do any of those links actually work?? I tried the NL site and there's no reply/no file, I tried the US site, same thing, I tried the UK site and they don't even have the utilities page anymore. So, where do you get it from?
