One of the Fry's computer specials (FIC VA-503+ and K6-III 333 for 79.00) looks like a good deal. Got her pumped up to 2.7v (stock 2.2) (about the limit) and running at 4.5 * 95. Perhaps the rumor that they would only do 380 is still corect, but not with this CPU.

What are you saying? You think that I am lying to you? This proves the point that the K6-III 333 is an underclocked K6-III 400, or one that is marginal at that speed. Like I said I had to cook the voltage to 2.7 to get it stable at 427, but there is no doubt that it is a K6-III. I have three other K6-III systems that I am always playing games on. Sorry that you do not believe me.

so what your saying that it is a k6-III 400, but you just have it underclocked or what??? Amd only produced them in 400 and 450 flavors,.. The so called K6-III 500 didnt last long, so I dont even count that.. And I dont ever call anyone a lier, I just think you seemed mis-informed..

I think he is saying that it didn't quite pass the test as a 400 so AMD dropped it in the 333 bin. Maybe at the end (of the K6-3 line) AMD decided to quit selling factory overclocked chips and instead grade them as whatever they would do at the 2.2v they were designed for.
Check pricewatch, there is such a thing as a K6-3 350. 333 is news to me though. I wish there was a fry's in northern Illinois..
I doubt AMD could make a K6-III chip that couldn't manage at least 400Mhz. I think that it will be a downbinned chip, simply beacause they wanted to keep selling them at the slower speeds. I have no reason to doubt AMD Guy didn't get it to that speed. Congratulations are in order if anything!

I have seen 333, 350, 400, 450 and the legendary 500. The 333 and the 350 were OEM chips sold to system integrators, and were not intended for retail sale. Here at the end AMD is clearing house and Fry's is getting all of the bulk chips. They ran through the 400s and now it is time for the bottom of the barrel. Jough is correct. It is marked 333 (Go figure since AMD is not ment for 66 MHZ bus.) Since I love the K6-III and the 400s are no more, I had to try the 333 and I am not disapointed. Thanks USS Voyager.

Just ran AMDCPUID and it is an authentic K6-III running at 429 MHZ. I suggest that anyone interested in the very last of the K6-III line should get to Frys ASAP.
