SETI, not the best test for overclocking

As a part of testing the new big fans on the Athlon, I've run extended sessions of 3DMark2000, Unreal Tournament timedemo, and SETI. With SETI I consistently get 1 or 2 degrees Celsius lower CPU temperature than with either 3DMark2000 or UT. It looks to me like it's not exactly the most taxing test for an overclocked CPU.

Nope, try Prime95...the real stability test!

    ftp://entropia.com/gimps/prime95.zip

Unzip and run the program and let it do its tests. Once thats done, stop it and select "Torture Test" from the menu.

I would say that the reason for that is that 3dmark and UT are taxing the entire computer not just the cpu/mem...giving subsequently higher temperatures.

I still have not seen anything that accomplishes something useful, but still keeps my performance graphs pegged at 100% like SETI does.

plus, it's a lot of fun competing!

Actually, Millenko, last I've heard SETI saturates the memory and cache bandwidth long before it comes even close to significantly taxing the FPU. So, yeah, it will keep the system busy at 100%, but that's 100% of the cache and memory, not the CPU.
