I'm really working hard on getting my Athlon to that point. Got a few more kinks to work out still.

OCN SETI has a few low average WU times of ard 5 hours. That works out to about 300 mins, if this guy does a WU in 15 mins, that makes his box over 20 times faster then anything we're running! Any speculations as to what it could be? Quad 4MB Xeons in SMP?

Maybe some top notch Alpha ? or Ultrasparc ?
Although I've heard those to do a WU in less than an hour, 14 mins does seem to be pushing it...
We came from the stars so they say, now it's time to go back. If I was conceived today, I would not get beyond eight cells, and yet here I am. In a way they were right, I don't have the heart for this world.

The question is, why am I having so much trouble dying?

He's probably a remnant of the days when you could screw the time of WU's.

Ever that or he found a way of disabling the BIOS time, meaning that the WU doesn't know when it started or finished

He could be working in a corporate enviorment, mabey he is a network admin, how hard would it be to deploy SETI onto 300+ workstations, noone would know, or care, especially if he is network admin.. "oh it's just a new upgrade to the NT kernel"

well, since SETI is not optimized for SMP (nor does it allow it), i don't see there ever being a time that low...

    he's just plain cheating...

you need the most current, uptodate, Compaq super servers running Irix to get 1hr WU's... this is just plain fraud...

now if he had that many WU's but had an 8hr average... that's fair game

yeah he might be at a company which has those monsterous servers and he could of slipped seti on with his email address, that would be a good idea, how fast could 10 ibm servers with quad 866 xeons in each of them crunch those seti numbers, or better yet how long would it take to strap one of those servers to a dolly and wheel out the door???

Arrgh. SETI does not use SMP! It can't do a WU on a dual processor setup any faster than a single processor!

If you run the prog twice it will do 2 WU in the time it takes to do one on a single processor though. Why don't people understand this!

    The guy is definately cheating.

He can run it on a Bewoulf cluster then he will get around the problem whit SETI who does not suport SMP!
And if you run Seti on a dual setup it takes about 20 - 30% longer time to do 2 WU`s than 1.
