Dell problems - What should my friend try and get for compensation?

    Yea,

My friend sent his Dell Laptop back to dell on warentee to replace a couple of broken componets, this was 6 1/2 weeks ago. Dell guarentees that repair will not take more than 10 days. he called in many times and got the same reply "we are waiting on the motherboard now, you should have it by tuesday"
he got it back today without the ram which is being send tomarow and will not be here 'till thursday.

what do you think he should be compensated.

Call them and grip them out. My dad had an experience where he was quoted a computer config from Dell refurb that came with a P3 Xeon, but instead it came with just a P3. He got them to refund some money to him.

For your friend, you are in a little more trouble. Laptops aren't easily upgradable. I would ask for more RAM, if it was me.

    What is his current config?

Well, that would be pretty cool, but I don't know that Dell will go for that. They might be able to give him a little better price if he trades it in on a new system.

    More RAM is always good...

It is probably too late to get much, but if he had made a big enough deal out of it after day 20 or so he could have gotten a new system. I think he should have gotten a new system for the trouble. He was out of a computer for six weeks! That is way to long to keep a customer waiting.

I agree with LG but the problem your friend has now as I see it, is that he waited until he got the system back before he threw a shoe. He would have been in a much better position to get them to do something if they still had his system. He kinda waited too long to do very much about it.

yes I mean a carry case.
Just because it took them a while to fix it is no grounds to go claiming free stuff!
how would you feel if you started up a little company and were not making all that much money, you are given something to fix and you say it will take a week, you then find that it is going to take longer because you got busy or whatever. Are you going to give your customer a refund? NO!
    same thing applies here

Well, I used to work for Dell, and what exactly were these broken componets?.

2nd of all, the warrenty states about the 72 hour turn around time on laptop service, that do to parts avialability, times may vary. I do think that is a long time to go without a laptop, but most laptop users own a desktop, and most laptop users use them for business, and if you purchase a business laptop from a company like IBM, they will have a loaner laptop to your door withen 4 hours, and they will take the laptop back with them to fix it.. that is if you are willing to pay $5000-$6000 for their laptops with that type of service.

Good points from every one here. I agree that he does not "deserve" a free laptop, but I like to get every thing I can from large corporations.

What does the guarantee say you are entitled to, if they do not meet the terms?
