Bits are 8x as large as bytes, but in real life, we use Bytes

I thought it was vice-versa. Bytes being largre than bits. I mean, If I'm getting 1500 kbps on this daikatana d/l but it also says 188 k/sec, then my guess is that bytes are bigger.

I mean in value (numbers)...

like 800bits = 100bytes

therefore according to him 190KBps (kilo-bytes) that's 1520Kbps (kilo-bits)
