Securing a waterblock?

I am thinking of building a water block etc for my Athlon system,but how or what is the best way to secure the waterblock to the CPU.
Is it better if I remove the heatsink and put it straight on the back plate or remove it's housing and somehow mount it directly on the chip itself?? if so what do I do about the cache chips as they sit lower than the CPU on the PCB.In either case can you suggest good ways of clamping the waterblock

check it out, it will be best to remove the HS and cold-plate so you can mount the block directly onto the cpu
