Plexiglass, EMI Shielding, and Conduits, Oh My!

Got a few questions for you guys. I want to build myself a nice little case like this one:



Now the questions: How much does 1/4" thick plexiglass cost and where can I buy it? What is EMI shielding and will the lack of it be a problem? Where can I get those nice little conduits(cable wraps) and how much do they cost?

I welcome aaaaaaaaaaaaany input.

Hi AlbinoPenguin - EMI shielding might be a problem for you personally but as long as you don't intend to sell these systems or use them in an office, you'll be ok . The conduit/wire tidy is dead easy - any car enthusiast supply shop or electrical supplier ie Maplin or Radioshack etc. will do it. For the perspex, design the case first with EVERY dimension (a major brain-ache, me thinks -LOL) and get a specialist company to make it fot you .

Any window-repair shop or home-depot will have plexi in various sizes. I buy it by the 4'x8' sheet. 1/4" is pretty thick, though. It's easily shaped when heated( no flame). It also glues easily, but the glue is visible from outside so use it sparingly. It drills well, but screws will split it easily.
Take a bunch of wires and solder them to the outside of the power supply and attach them to your various internal hardware for grounding (slipping one end under a screw is usually enough). e-mail me if you need more help.

What about the power button? Where can I get that?

any electronics store like **** Smith or Tandy.....oops i forgot, i think u call them Radioshack or something over in Yankeeland

but yeah any radioshack place should have power buttons.

an AT power button is just a mechanical switch....i'm not sure if u can buy ATX buttons....u might be able to....otherwise just rip out the one from your old case

i think the buttons they use on atx cases are just those ones that when u push them in they pop back out again. (jeez i'm terrible at explaining this)
