    Fan noise

    At the back of my case, there is a hexagonal array of predrilled holes on which I mounted on a new fan. However, because of the high wind resistance, my PC is sounding more like a car. Is there a way of overcoming this without punching out the panel in the back?

    Is it a ratteling, or just wind noise? If It rattles I would just get some cardboard and put it between the screw holes on the fan and the case. If the whole case rattles I would tighten up the screws or possibly squirt some silicone in the cracks and that should do it. You also have the option of tossing it under a bus.

    You may also want to try putting rubber rings between the fan and the case...

    you can run the fan at 5 or 7 volts - it will blow less air, but it will also be quieter...
