    Maxtor and OCing

    I'm having a hell of a time finding a hard drive for my system... I'm looking for a 7200 RMP ATA66 hard drive. I found a Maxtor drive at Staples, and I was wondering how well it will perform at odd PCI clocks, like between 30 and 40 MHz? Thanks guys.

    That is what I'm thinking about buying. I might go out today and get one from Office depot.

    Unfortunately, I'm not very close to a best buy, maybe a half hour drive. However, the office depot will match the best buy price .

    Just got a 13.6 GB Maxtor from office depot. 7200 RPM spindle speed, ATA 66. I paid $130 for it, but considering that I couldn't find anywhere on-line for a decent price, I think I did well.

    I haven't had any problens with any ov my maxtor drives. I have had a few too. 40MHz PCI bus too!

    Good to hear. Makes me feel like I made a good purchase. People don't usually rank Maxtors among the top drives, but I don't think people are giving them enough credit.

    just my opinion though... Anywho, time to install some drives.

    hey rgwalt,
    you might wanna consider going with a nice ibm drive. they're supposed to be the **** when it comes to o/c'ing. not sure how much they cost though. i just would be awfull leary of those maxtors though. they don't have a very good rep w/the o/c'ers

    I considered going with an IBM drive, until I looked at the prices. They are good drives, but couldn't find one with the specs I was looking for that was in stock. I have an IBM drive in another machine that I can always swap if I have problems with the Maxtor.

    The older Maxtor had a bad reputation ... the newer Maxtor actually has a decent/good reputation (but word are just starting to spread) ... but like I said, we are only talking about reputations.
