Need help on grandparents system (comon guys)

k.. here are the specs

Amd K6-266@333
Gainward 5VPA (Via MVP3)
Joyimage Apollo 16mb AGP(Savage 4 Pro)
128 PNY PC-100
USRobotics ISA 56k
horrable ESS ISA soundcard.

the chip is stable at 380 2.2v but it doesn't like 100Mhz bus (won't do 100*3.5)

i don't get it.. the performance is pretty bad.. my k6 200 with a Riva128 4mb beats it in 3D Bus transfer rate (my RiVA is a PCI card) and in a few other areas. it won't even play Halflife at acceptable frame rates anymore (it used to, but it doesn't after a fresh install of Win98) i have the latest Video Refrence drivers installed, and Dx7a is installed. i've heard stories about AGP cards acting like PCI cards without a certan patch. Where can i find this patch? i'm not sure if its a Video problem or a Mobo conflict... i'm kinda stumped its probably somthing stupid that i overlooked.


Any help would be appreciated

oh, and the sound cuts out when i'm playing games, but i'm pretty sure thats due to the ESS ISA soundcard (junk, junk, JJUUNNKKKK)

k.. i got the patch, the bus transfer rate tripled. but thats about it.. it looks better, but not too much.. when i disable sound. it gets quite a bit faster, so i'm going to get my grandma a new soundcard. nothing special, probably a SB Gamer or somthing..

Wow - awell, an ISA soundcard will lag an AGP card heavily - you could increase the PCI latency to help reduce the lag the ISA card causes, but whenever your sound card is active, its gonna slow down your entire I/O subsystem.

Your AGP slot is like 36 times faster than ISA. 1 ISA transaction costs the equivalent of 36 AGP transactions.

Loose that card.

wow, i bet thats one hell of a Performance hit, plus i'd like to get it to 100 mhz bus or so (maby 112?) i don't know if the board will go that high. i know the memory will take it, it ran at 124 in a buddy's computer.
