Well, there was some stuff recently posted at hardocp about messing around with fan voltages, and not being able to resist the opportunity to mess around with my computer I decided to do some experimentation. I used a cheapo fan rated at 12 volts from an old power supply. The logical thing would be to run it at 17V (12 and -5), but that did not sound too appealing, so I started it up directly at 24V. Holy crap this thing spins fast! This normally pathetic fan is now a high-perfomance equivalent. I've had it on for 24 hours now and it hasn't showed any problems yet. I am curious as to how far any of you have pushed your fans - 26, 28, 32 volts anyone? How many volts does it take to kill one of these things?
