I think I will format my hardrive tonight and reinstall Windows 98SE. Here is my plan.
-Download all the latest drivers for my videocard, soundcard, NIC, videocapture card, CD-Rom, CD-R, etc.
-Download all the latest software that I will need. Like Roadrunner software, DirectX 7, ICQ, etc.
-Burn all the software to a CD-RW.
-Install Window 98 SE. I want to do the compact version. When I am done I want to have as many resourses available so I thought the compact version would not intall all the crap. I just want plain old windows 98. I can add stuff later.
-Install all the drivers and software from the CD. (I will probably keep this CD up to date when new drivers or software come out so that when I format again I won't have to download it again).
-Install all my games and crap.
-tweak all my files again. I need to tweak my roadrunner, NIC, registry, cache, etc. I will follow a lot of the steps at http://www.3dspotlight.net/ and http://www.tweakfiles.com
What do you think? Do you have any advise for me? I hope I will see an increase in performance since it has been 10 months since I have bought my harddrive. What do you think of my Compact install idea?
