Hey, does anyone know how much voltage an AMD K6-2/450 can handle? I'm running that CPU on a M598 Jumperless mobo. It's default core voltage is 2.4v and I've increased it to 2.6v but Wintune 98 says my CPU speed is only 452 mhz, which is what it said before I upped the voltage. Right now, I'm running waterfall pro and the temperature kinda varies from 116 to 120. I would like to be running at 500 if possible, and I can't increase the multiplier because when I do, the computer geeks out and I have to reset the CMOS. Please help!
I used 2,8 for 3 months without problems (and big cooler).
With 2,6V u could reach 500 without any problems.
It was stabile at 517,5Mhz (115x4,5).
U probobly knowe that higher FSB can couse problems with rest of your PC resources.
For MB I cant help becouse I never used your type of MB.
Well, I'm running at 2.6v right now w/ no problems. So am I at 500 mhz, even though Wintune says 452? Is there a utility I could get to check my overclocked speed?
There is a program you could use, but it's in polish, called CpuClock. It puts a little digital counter on your desktop showing you the clock frequency.
You can also get WCPUID. It also shows the clockfrequency.
I am using an AMD k6-2 450 (2.2V core)@ 500Mhz on an ASUS TX97-E mobo.
E-Mail me if you want the programs
try a higher fsb speed like 110 or 112 over a higher muiltiplier first.. You should have no problems running up to 2.8 volts, but will need extra cooling, so watch that temp! If ya wanna go nuts look into a peltier and an Alpha HO to cool that puppy way down.. I've gotten my k6-2 450 up to 560 w/ 2.7 volts using a peltier and an Alpha.. But with just an alpha and 2.7 or 2.8 volts you should be able to hit 500 or 504... Good Luck!!
PC guru: unfortunately, like me, you own a pc-chips mobo (i have the M599). This is NOT the best board for overclocking, in fact far from it. The Memory Bridge sucks big time too. I have managed to overclock my K6-2 450 (2.2v) to 500, with a voltage of 2.5V (100x5). This was not completely stable, crashing every couple of days for no reason. The heat got up to around 46-49*C with a cooler master fan ( for up to 650MHz chips ). The K6-2 450 can supposedly be run at up to 59-60*C, but this has gotta be bull****.
If you wanna overclock, get a new board!
(NOT PC-Chips!).
