o.k., Im new to overclocking and having fun learining and reading in this forum.
The Computer im messing around with is my old Cyrix M2 300 MHz computer with a Pentium MMX motherboard ( I dont wanna mess with my k6III till I know what im doing)
Right now the External clock is set to 66MHz and the Interanl is at 1.5x/3.5x ... so im guessing its only actually running at about 231MHz.
2 questions:
1. How far do you think i can push this processor ( i know cyrix is crap), I was thinking 75MHz FSB and 4.0x ICS
2. Is there a way i can tell exactly how fast my Cpu is running ( ie. program, etc.)
I tried to see in my bios but to no avail
Thanks in advance
I can't really help you with the Cyrix, but a good program that will show processor speed and a bunch more info is SiSoft Sandra... pretty good diagnostic program... if you go to www.download.com you can get a demo version....

Do not attempt to overclock your processor unless you can buy another. I tried to overclock the very same processor from 233 (it's actual speed) to 266, used it like that for one day, then put it back. Within a week the chip died. Cyrix MIIs are allready maxed out as is.

I have a Cyrix 300Mhz CPU and a Super Socket 7 Motherboard, when I got the computer the processor speed said, "CYRIX PROCESSOR 233"
So I went a head and moved the clock speed from 3.0x to the next setting 3.5x (65Mhz to 75Mhz) and now it displays the correct speed of 300Mhz, I have had the chip running like this since January of 1999 with no problems? If you need a spec sheet on cpu clock speeds for the Cyrix Chip I have them and the K6 Line too. Just E-mail me and I will send them to you.

992 Motherboard Jumpers - Cyrix 6x86MX/MII CPU
Cyrix rates the speed of their processors as a megahertz-equivalent performance level based upon industry-standard benchmark comparisons to the PentiumŪ II processor when tested in equivalently configured computer systems. In the table below, the Cyrix CPU designation is followed by the internal CPU clock speed. For example, the PR-150+ has an internal CPU clock speed of 120 MHz.
