    CPU Cooling Programs Don't Work

With all of the talk about the various CPU cooling programs like CPUIdle, Waterfall, and Rain, I decided to give them a try. CPUIdle won't run at all, Rain and Waterfall don't affect my temperature one bit. Any thoughts?

They helped me, but that is by the touch and feel method. Also, running it with RC5 or such sort of defeates the purpose since they use 100% of the processor. Finally, Win NT or Win 2000 already have the program, so it is just redundant.

They will only be useful in operating systems that dont support use of the HLT commands, as was mentioned. If youre running NT, it wont make a difference.

Second, they only work when the processor isnt. So if you were running your processor at 100%, it wouldnt do anything at all. Personally, CPUIdle lowers the temp of my CPU by about 5 degrees Celcuis. Not wonderful, but better than nothing.

Oh yes they do. And surprisingly well, too. However, if you are running Bovine (the distributed computing client,) you will have no reduction. The way it cools is by shutting parts of the chip down during cycles where it is not being used. If you are using 100%, there are no unused cycles during which it can be shut down, hence no cooling effect.

I'm running 98, BTW. I'm not running bovine, either. I even tried letting my system just sit for about half and hour. No change. No big deal, really. I'm running 464 rock steady and consistent around 35, so I don't really need this I don't suppose, I just wondered why it didn't work (for me).
