Booting with my network card taked ages! Why?

When I have my D-Link 530CT+ network card in place, booting '98 freezes for about 15-20 seconds!
This is really frustrating. Is there anything that I can do to speed up the booting without removing the card?

    Thanks in advance,

    L

You should try booting with a floopy instead - I alays have a hell of a time getting those nic cards in the fdd

seriously though, it sounds like win is either initializing, or failing on something and waiting until timeout. Try booting with a bootlog (f5 on startup and select option 2 - create bootlog) to see. Also, check properties of my computer to see if there is a hw problem.
I call it "No-Pants Wonderday," but it turns out the police just call it "Thursday." Go figure.

    Thanks for the help.

I'll try the bootlog thing when I get home

The card is working alright, it's just the boot time

You need to assign an IP address for TCP/IP protocol for your network card in the Network Control Panel. E-mail me if you need more help. Windows is looking for an IP address during but; that's the delay.

You may also be loading network protocols that you don't need. Right-click on your Network Neighborhood Icon and check out what protos you're loading, then delete the ones you aren't using. Kind of depends on what kind of a network you are trying to get running.
