I haven't read any audigy reviews, but you can see the specs in here http://www.soundblaster.com/products/audigygamer/specs.asp it says that supports 24-bit playback but only 16-bit recording.

Maybe is just a bug with the winamp version you're using, try upgrading or downgrading. Also if you're talking about winamp 3, i must remind you that it's a BETA version, not a final stable version...
