Sounds like your installation procedure is wrong. My suggestion:
-Extract the driver files to a new directory of your choice, not Windows!
-Delete the sound device in the device manager and reboot...
Have a look into system control panel->multimedia. There you will find a volume control for different types of media. Check CD-Audio there, maybe its muted.

Yor best bet would be to take a look at the card and identify the sound processing chip (usually the biggest one). Ther should be a name and a number on it.
