If you are having problems with the Soundblaster 16 emulation then you could try this.

Right click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Device Manager
Click SB16 Emulation
Click Properties...

To be honest I'm completely baffeled.

Are you using the creative recorder?
If you are then you might try using a different one , like cool3d or cooledit2000.

Are you recording first to your harddisk?

Is it the cd that skips and repeats?
Which CD-RW & CD software are you using?

I had the same problem with my steering wheel.
Dump the Creative Gameport Joystick drivers
and install the microsoft one.
This solved my problem.

the card should work , even with the original drivers.
The fact that the PC starts up and doesn't conflict ( you didnt mention any ) suggests that the card is physically installed ok.
