You now have the mic selected (un-muted) for playback. However it is a seperate setting to select the source for recording. From the mixer panel select "options" then "properties" and then "Adjust...

Brian, Try it with a set of headphones (only) straight into the line-out or speaker-out jack. This will tell you whether it's a groud loop problem or if it's intrinsic to the card.
