"Shouldn't" seems to be the key word here.
Anyone else on this??

Will installing Win7 in AHCI mode affect the other non active partitions that are on a MBR drive??
October 14th, 2013, 06:42 PM
This still has not be answered:
If I install Win7 in the 1st partition replacing XP, how does that affect the other partitions? Also, where/when is the choice of MBR and GPT enter into this?

Win7 creates the hidden partition doesn't it?
October 13th, 2013, 10:23 PM
I understand that, but a GPT is suppose to be effective and/or effective with Win7 and above isn't it?
October 13th, 2013, 06:19 AM
Ok, now I'm confused. I was under the impression this new & greatest UEFI BIOS with it's AHCI mode was all about not using MBR (except for that somewhat hidden extra partitions Win7 creates) and...

Isn't that the purpose of UEFI and Win7 etc, to get away from MBR??

Can any program setup a HDD using GPT instead of MBR?
October 12th, 2013, 07:33 AM
Almost any program will do that.

I just tried GPartedLive and there is no merge option, at least not visible unless it is some hidden process. It seems the 'merge' function is a pay only feature by design to get you to step up to...

Funny, my 5 year old MB had no issue here.
October 8th, 2013, 06:25 AM
I wasn't planning on leaving it to IDE, I was just wondering where I would see a difference since I wasn't sure it would work going from AHCI to IDE.
October 7th, 2013, 08:17 PM
A 2nd question; with a SSD drive that I have installed Win7 on (fresh install), for kicks & giggles, I switched back to IDE mode and booted back into Windows. To mu partial surprise, there was no...

I'm not sure where to put this, but here it is.
Using a already formatted & partitioned HDD from a older non GPT ready (if you will) MB, I want to install Win7 64 bit using AHCI. The current O/S...

Outside of Windows??
The issue is not the USB mouse and/or keyboard. It'd the loss of video after whatever different driver loads after the initial menu screen of these programs.
I bypassed the...

Based to their comparison table, the Free version doesn't allow merging;

Bad link, try this;
October 4th, 2013, 05:00 PM
I was going to but, why would it work for other programs om discs??

Existing HDD with three partitions (one active) from a conventional BIOS to a UEFI based BIOS
The 1st partition is only 10GB. I want to double it for Win7 (no games, non O/S files are stored outside...

I wasn't sure where to put this, but here is the situation (read closely);
New AMD 970 based MB w/ USB mouse & keyboard (legacy USB is enabled)
Ok while in the O/S
Ok while in the UEFI BIOS

1. TDP tells me absolutely nothing when it comes down to power at the AC outlet. A few watts at 12vdc is meaningless,
2. That chipset shootout had to do with Intel, not AMD so that is meaningless,...
September 15th, 2013, 07:33 PM
How would that translate into current draw at 120vac since those figures are at 12vdc?
And no, this is not "resolved" whomever put that there!
September 15th, 2013, 08:10 AM
Using the same (or very similar components, is there any power consumption difference between different motherboard chipsets?
Example: AMD 970 vs 990 vs 990FX.
Using the same processor and same...

I seriously doubt any have to do with this, but I will try to take a lok. I will also take another look at the different version of these drivers in their so called "catalog"" site.

Those were the two choices.
It's up to date as of sp1. Just as my XP's are as up to date as of sp3 (that have no issue).
