Sounds like the adapter you got is mono. Get a stereo one and you should be set to go. One other thing thats worth a shot is to make sure the plug is all the way into the jack on the soundcard.

Yeah and the AWE64 is an ISA card anyways. I have never seen a sound card that actually uses that connector, ignore it.

Soundcards don't stutter. Slow hard drives, crappy slow celeron processors, and not enough ram makes a system stutter.

Forget any other cards, get a SB Live. Any version is fine, I have the value oem verion myself. The oem version is the same as retail except for the fancy box and lack of games included with it.

Do you have amplified speakers? Does your soundcard have a built in amp? If so turn off the amp built into the soundcard. Usually there are jumpers on it for that.
