I have exactly the same problem with UT. I have found so far the only cure is to turn down the sound acceleration by one notch. Not ideal, but hey, it works.

I have the SBlive platinum with the Desktop Theatre 5.1 system. The sound is stunning. Those speakers aint that big but they kick out the volume.
DVD's play in wonerful 5.1 dolby too.
