MX300 should definitely be your choice...If not for the salient points listed already then for the fact that in near future driver releases the MX300 will support EAX whereas SBLIVE! will not support...

Your microphone problem may be related to impedance/ohms...I recall reading about an optimal setting to resolve malfunction.
What's missing from your post however are more pertinent system details...
