Both cards are of good quality but I would choose the AWE64. The AWE64 was and still is a very good sound card.

I am also using the KK266 and like the onboard sound, it works great! I get better volume than I did with my Sound Blaster Live!
I have never been crazy about onboard anything but the C-Media...

You could get a Gullient Maxi Sound Fortissimo or Maxi Sound Muse. The Muse is inexpensive and has had some very good reviews.

Put in the SB Installation and SB Applications CDs, right click on the CD-ROM drive and choose explore. Maybe the programs are in a folder on one of the disks.

You could remove the video card and read the writing on the chip, it should say something, Creative, S3, Aureal, etc.
If you can find this information it will help narrow down what card you have.

Cambridge Sound Works and Altec Lansings are great speakers for the money! I don't think you could go wrong with either of these.

If you can get the Live Platinum for $99.00 buy it! The Live Platinum comes with the Live drive! Windows 2000 supports the card and it should work trouble free.

It depends on what you want to do. The card you have has good sound, but a few steps up would be a Sound Blaster Live. I put the Live! X Gamer in my system and am real happy with it.

You need to get a different cable. Some cables have one white end and one black end, some have two black ends.

Check the properties in Device Manager and see if "Enable Digital CD Audio for This Device" is enabled.

That is a good card and a fantastic price!!!
The card will work just fine for gaming. Compatibility won't be an issue.

Longbow 2's solution will fix the problem. I set mine up like that for the same reason.
