The Fortissimo II uses the CS4624 sound chip as opposed to the CS4630 used in the Sonic Fury/Santa Cruz and GTXP.
As the names suggest these chips are very similar but the CS4624 has a slightly...

If you don't want the breakout box then don't consider the GTXP - otherwise it's essentially the same as the Santa Cruz/Sonic Fury.
I think there's been quite a few problems with the Audigy...

Tricky decision. As dfdsd said it partly depends on the system (mainly motherboard and it's chipset).
Personally, I own a Fortissimo II and I'm very happy with it. Some people have problems...

If you look on the board you should see an Yamaha chip (near the back probably).
Other than the OPL3 based onboard sound the YMF-724 is common as onboard sounds.
The YMF's (724/744/754) use a...

I sold my Fortissimo I a while back so I'm not sure what the latest drivers are. I'm sure there 2.02x's about. The Abit 2.018 beta's work well.

I believe that most of the problems with the SbLive were fixed with the 5.1's as they fixed the broken ACPI header. Haven't actually tried one so I can't confirm (I own a Fortissimo II).

If you want to make music primarily then you can pick up an Some music-orientated sound cards for about £100.
Otherwise, Look at the Videologic Sonic Fury. Good sound quality, although the MIDI...

Turtle Beach did release some specs for their new upcoming sound card. The specs appeared quite a while ago (b4 xmas) and
I haven't seen anything since.
Try searching through the news archive at...

Try VDMSound -it's free and works very well under Win2k and XP.
In fact I can run some game with it which the real DOS drivers (98SE DOS prompt) wouldn't work with my FortissimoII (very similar...

Look at the KT7(A) FAQ at www.viahardware.com
Try dropping the overclock on the FSB so that the PCI bus is at 33MHz. (Could be the problem)

There is/was a problem with the SBLive prior to the 5.1's and the 686b (b is important).
The 5.1's don't suffer from the problem as Creative fixed the broken ACPI header.
What mobo do you have...

You're a bit out of date with the Montego II - I don't think it's made anymore. The Santa Cruz is the current Turtle Beach sound card, supposed to be very good (i've got a Hercules Fortissimo II -...
