Pretty much go by your ear. Monsoons are very

Most of the Creative products works fine with Linux. I have a SB Live! Value using RedHat 6.2. 6.2 detected my card with no problems.

I don't know anything about the DMAN card. I haven't even heard of it.
If the DMAN card has Soundblaster emulation then he only needs one card. Most cards out there support soundblaster.

I use a Live! on my K6-II and my K6-III.
I haven't had any problems at all.
I run a Banshee on the K6-II and a V3 3000 on the K6-III.

Have you tried putting wire loom on your speaker wires?
I had the same problem as you. I put wire loom on my wires and haven't had a problem yet.

Win98 still will not run well on a 486. If you want performance and have all your hardware work on the 486 your company might want to install Linux on it. Linux does support the SB16.
