I'd like to switch to green this generation. For some reason my purchase timing the last couple of generations has meant that I've bought AMD cards, it's time for an Nvidia card again.

You have confirmed that EMM386 isn't running, but the flash utility still gives you the "fail due to EMM386.." error ?
You didn't see any TSRs when you typed mem /c /p , just COMMAND and MSDOS ?

Your HDD is probably failing. Copy all your valuable information to a different HDD.

My fault, I should have said 0 free extended memory in my post. Anyway, as long as you don't see any expanded memory mentioned, then you should be fine even if you do have an extended memory manager...

The pc should boot to DOS.
You should see 5xx KB conventional memory.
