i have the mx300 too, using win me n' the system will crash with diamond original drivers n' with aureal lastest drivers i get sound iches n' pop ups when the card try to generate a second sound.....

of course mx400 no...
like i say before the mx400 don't have better cpu utilization than the sblive n' any vortex2 card..
n' u gonna playing games.. so sblive! is your only choice n' i heard people...

try doing a clean install of windows

when installing a new videocard, soundcard, motherboard or other hardware related with drivers...
is always recommended to do a clean installl of windows

someone always say to try this solution:

switch the card to another pci slot n' let me know what happens...

maybe is when windows is trying to load dos emulation...

try this:
click start, then run and type "msconfig", then go to startup tab and uncheck all the startup programs, restart n' let me know..
