Try placing in a known working SB Live card and see whether it works. My old sound card did the same thing b'cosssss it was a faulty card.

Do not worry about it. The speaker that I used to own(not FPS1000) did make popping sounds when the switch nearby was switched on. I believe it is call a power dip.
