Which one is the better buy. I use the puter for gaming and overall net, school, messing around.
Or suggest other brands and options within the $ range.

We need more information than that. What is the dot pitch? What is the max resolution? Will your vid. card support the monitor's max resolution? These are just a few things that you have to consider before getting one of these two. Maybe give us the model numbers and we could see.
We just need more information.
Remember seeing Komodo Computer Products listed as a mfr of 17in monitors at pricewatch. Isn't that Komodo as in komodo dragon AKA gekko?

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the Komodo anymore after seeing the specs. The LIMITED warranty is there for 3 years too...
I'll let the real monitor experts chime in though...

yes the Komodo does not sound that bad 1600*1200@76hz is not bad on a 19 inch mon but if it is like a goldfish bowl go with the viewsonic

Other reviews of their product appear to be split. Half love, half hate. In this situation, I think the only way to verify is to look at it in person and answer if you want to chance having to use the 3yr warranty.
