Talking about CDrom drives and how long they last. I resently bought a new one, cheap, unknown brand. I had shock when it was spinning up. It was noisy like a vacuum-cleaner.Is this normal in new fast ones, or was it just poor quality? The thing is that i had upgraded with new HD and Fan so as to get a silent computer. Well this CDrom did not last long,i had to replace it with my old one. I just couldn't stand the noise, even if i don't use it very often.
What do you say?

I bought a cheap 48x, and it was pretty noisy. It sounded a little off balance too. I bought a 50x Acer, still makes a little noise, but in comparison, it's a lot quieter and smoother http://discussions.hardwarecentral.com/biggrin.gif It seems that when you get into the higher speeds, you'll have to put up with some noise, just by the nature of the high speed.

I calculated the odds of this working versus the odds I was doing something really, really stupid, and...I went ahead anyway. :D
