Network Neighborhood

Hi all,
In a NT Network of course we all know that computers participating with the network their names can be seen from network neighborhood.
my question is: i know it is possible to make computer names not visible from the network neighborhood and we can only see it by doing a map to it's computer name, do u know how?

Yep, add a "$" sign at the end of the share name, e.g. sharedmap$

You are right but even if we put a $ sign on all shares the computer name will still appear in network neighborhood with the netlogon share and printers share.

Oops sorry, I see that I misread your question.

Here's how you do it:

Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:

\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters


From the Edit menu, choose Add Value and type:

Hidden

NOTE: This value is case sensitive and must begin with a capital H.


In the Data Type field, choose REG_DWORD and choose OK.


In the Data field, type 1 to enable hiding and choose OK.


NOTE: Data field range: 0 or 1
Default: 0 (false)


Restart your computer.
