Due to money constraints, I am looking for an IDE hard drive.
For ide, the best drive you can buy is the Ibm deskstar models
I am using a 10.1 gig IBM Deskstar GXP14
(They do make a 14.1gig) It's spins at 7200RPM and gets warm but not hot. I use it with a dual fan drive bay cooler, about $35
The GXP family is among the fastest 3 or 4 IDE drives out there (8-9ms)uses GMR heads and hard SMART hardware monitoring, most new socket 7 boards use this, I don't know about Slot1. You should be able to get the 10gig for under $300, i paid $270
I just purchased a 10.0 Maxtor hard drive and it works great! Only $120.00
IBM is best for win95/98
Maxtor for NT
IBM overclocks better than Maxtor
